The WWII landing beaches of Normandy are powerful, emoting, and now, peaceful. There is a German gun bunker behind me as I'm looking at the now peaceful expanse of beach that the Americans had to negotiate, then climb the dunes to get rid of the German guns. You have a sense of scale here. Haunting.
