About The Artwork
This work is part of a series dedicated to textile machines, 12 works created in 2008 on the occasion of an exhibition on the work and the workers of the Marzotto Company with the collaboration of the city of Valdagno, Italy, and the "Macchine Tessili" museum of Marzotto. The beauty of an artifact is the result of creative activity, of a loving process of doing, of technological knowledge, of the encounter between the functional objective and its architecture. The attention to detail, fruit of passion, refers to a technique perceived as "environment", to a "macro-apparatus" that is the technological system that identifies an era and conditions and determines a lifestyle. The subjects of my works once roared and howled in the performance of their tasks and now lie inert and silent, their eyes exploded, peeling into the skin-paint, corroded with red rust, oxidized with yellow and green, blinded and pierced by time. The packaging board, an industrial material itself, on the one hand, by means of the technique of removing the unpainted surface and the consequent laying bare of the corrugated structure of the support, decontextualizes what is represented on its surface, making it an icon; on the other, it underlines with its own fragility, the fragility of all that strength and power, warning and reflection on the transience and arrogance of a thought that has lost sight of the purpose of human creativity, which is not the profit of the few but the harmonious development of the entire planet. My aesthetic revisitation and revitalization of these industrial totems or fragments of their skeletons, joints, cartilages, is an invitation to rediscover the primary goal of human doing, the growth of the well-being of all, to rethink the idea of progress, to give meaning to the words "sustainable development", inventing a new beauty for our work, to rediscover the sense of a viable future that can not ignore the relationship between man and technology.

I was born in Verona, Italy, in 1949. I grew up in the cultural atmosphere of the '70s in Florence, where I graduated in Architecture. In that period I was also a musician and experimental performer. In the mid '80s I wrote songs and sang with my rock band in Verona, and worked as a scene, graphic and furniture designer. In 1997 my first exhibits in the art-world of painting.My most recent works, Industrial Archaeologies, divert the attention onto cultural products for survival: they are geological finds of a recent civilisation, the industrial one. These works, rigorously pastel painted, are totems, neglected mechanical parts abandoned to indifference. These objects, captured in their monumental plasticity are tragically present; they seem solid and impregnable mechanisms like ancient war machines. The support material is presented as fragile, recycled cardboard, as meagre as the oppressive isolation of the objects. And yet in this ambivalent scene of force and fragility is the harmonious result of the mix where the support is not only the place of evocation but becomes expressive material that transforms itself into light and colour.
