The John Day Fossil Beds, Painted Hills Unit is a magical place. Around every corner on every trail there are surprises and views that inspire. Unusual colors and patterns in the soft dirt, deep blue sky and wildflowers in June add up to spectacular scenery. I used a palette knife to rapidly capture the vibrancy and energy of this scene. Before returning to Bend, those clouds dumped snow, then parted to reveal another blue sky! Love central Oregon!
