I paint expressionist style portraits of musicians from life using rapid brushwork to express the movement and emotion of the music. Having previously studied and worked in the animation industry in London, I decided to make a break and moved to Oaxaca, Mexico in 2004, where captivated by the light and surrealist culture, I decided to remain for 7 years, living and working amongst the vibrant and respected artistic community which played a pivotal influence in my work. I began painting and drawing street musicians at this time in Mexico which culminated in several exhibitions. Since returning back to my hometown London in 2011, I have continued to work on this theme, and portrait painting, and am currently working on a new series of expressionist paintings of objects. I mainly paint from life, as I believe that this is the only way to to genuinely capture the small nuances of expression which brings real energy and life into the work. ?v=kFzRAiZsztI
