Our Words Travel When Our Bodies Cannot Painting

This small painting packs a punch. The postcard and desert image ground bold blue, green, and red-orange which compliment the aged yellow of the book pages so well. The scribbles and small pieces of collage finish the look. With the most poignant title of the bunch, this painting evokes a sense of wanderlust. As with most of us, my home and work life shifted dramatically while under quarantine. Every morning I went into the studio for an hour of personal work time. I created a morning routine that involved movement, music, journaling, and painting. Slowly, day after day, this collection came to fruition. Centered on a collage cloud made with a single vintage postcard, this collection explores concepts of communication over distance, handwriting as human touch, physical and implied textures, small moments of clarity within chaos, and a balance of construction and destruction.
