About The Artwork
The Overscore series started after I’d been to a house I like to escape to in Wales. It’s a house that sits in the lee of a mountain and was built by an artist in the 1960’s. It has an aura of quietness that includes the lulling sound of the sea and occasional bleating of sheep. The house has large windows with vistas full of sea and sky coloured by an ever-changing array of magical blues and greys that are often burned into silvers, golds and magenta by the setting sun. Nothing interrupts the view to the sea and it’s impossible not to be entranced by such a place. Tyn y Cae can be a gentle sunny summer’s day or a raging, lashing winter’s storm, and I love it. The Overscore paintings were completed in 2011

I trained in Textile Structures and then Fine Art, in St Albans, London, Italy, then finally in Spain for my Masters. I live and work in Northamptonshire, England. I explore with the painting process, responding to the paint materials, surface, and colour as the painting unfolds. I love that just one stroke, a dab, or the sweep of a paint filled brush changes a painting–in-the-making from being any one of the other paintings it might have been. The painting cannot be what it is without each change that occurs with each paint stroke. I now paint with acrylic paint and in the last year have been exploring acrylic paint skins as a medium.
