ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is one of a number of 'E&A Series' paintings - geometric works on paper using acrylic and pastel. Before the E&A series I had been painting very free expressionist work, kind of after the style of Franz Kline. With this series, I wanted more intellectual discipline and restraint. So the paintings are more formal, and the energy comes through the layering of paint - a history of marks on the paper. I dislike the pretence of perspective and prefer depth of mark making on the painted surface. A period of intense exploration, this is one of a series of over 40 paintings.

Leo is a British artist living and working in Singapore. He was trained at Camberwell Art School, part of the London Institute, where he specialised in Fine Art. After graduating, he went on to read English Literature at Exeter University. Leo is a contemplative painter. Influenced by the abstract expressionists, he is an aesthetic rather than a conceptual artist. Leo loves colour and the richness, texture and even smell of paint. He believes that, at its best, abstract work can contain human truths as well as aesthetic ones.
