About The Artwork

Sumo is a Japanese traditional sport which as an artist always attracted me because of those huge bodies moving so quickly and all their rituals and coiffures and their curious mawashi, the long silk ribbon they wear as a perizoma with a knot in the back. In this series I wanted to mix all my favorites themes, human figure, fashion and water. I wanted them to look very light and fresh, and playful, despite their size, they are almost suspended in a watery abstract background. I also decided to use Japanese textile patterns as a distinction mark for their perizoma, which give a sense of humor and fashion without being irreverent. Signed at the backside, professionally packed for shipping. Oil on canvas, it is ready to be hanged with a little nail, but it can be framed for a better result with a simple wooden box (boite americaine).

I'm an Italian artist living in Barcelona (Spain), place where I started my career as a painter. Since I started, painting has become an urgent need. Fascinated mostly by pulsating life, water, but not only, also people and nature in general. Water as an element in eternal transformation. Fish as elusive colored dots constantly moving in the water which occasionally becomes the sky and then all creatures fly. Colors are the vectors of my emotions. Painting to me is a never ending process so that sometimes (quite often) I take old paintings and retouch them, add or change something or simply erase them and start a new one. I use to work on different paintings and subjects at the same time, depending on the energy of the day. I start with an idea but the result is often completely different from the initial concept, I try to flow with the new solution coming out from the canvas. It is a wonderful feeling, having a small piece of mine hanging in houses all over the world.
