This 16" x 20" acrylic painting is inspired by the recent Paris Olympics, where the unsung work of making a win possible is done by "domestiques" or helpers whose job is to take care of the favorites. The job of the paceline is to set the pace for the pelopton and "pull" back leaders on the course, who've broken away from the pack. This instrumental "domestique" work, which is rarely understood or appreciated, makes it possible for the winners to eventually attack and sets them up for the win. That work, thankless and tireless is the bedrock of the race. As a fan of cycling, I've come to appreciate its spectacular moments as well as the mundane.
