ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artwork is 27.75in x 17.65 on 30in x 22in paper. I would recommend to frame float this piece. Process This painting is a monotype. Mono-typing is a printmaking process made by drawing or creating an image, usually characterized by spontaneity, on a non-absorbent surface. I work on smooth aluminum plates creating my paintings by inking the surface of the plate with oil etching inks, using rugs, brushes, scrapers or squeegees to create a subtractive image. This image is then transferred onto a damp sheet of paper by pressing the two together, with the use of a printing press, destroying the original artwork and creating one single print. The personal nature of the monotype suited experimental artists from Camille Pissarro, Edgar Degas, to Pablo Picasso. These artists used the monotype process in unorthodox ways. Their artworks inspire my own. Materials used Gamblin etching ink Arches paper

My monotype paintings are insinuations of landscapes and horizons from distant memories. The compositions, which are inspired by my fascination with nature’s form and movement, have an organic feel and convey serenity, tranquility and at times, a powerful dynamism. My painting process is an experimental approach. With the handling of the oil ink on a smooth aluminum plate a pictorial expression emerges. Each piece explores light, contrast and texture with colors melding as the inks get carved into the canvas. Works create a space for dialogue with the viewer that tell a story which is then interpreted through the viewer’s own perspective and emotions.
