Papuan Artists at Sentani Lake Painting

Pyrography is a form of wood burning art, where the painting is produced from the process of burning wood (in this painting using hard pine plywood) with a hot solder and fire spray. This painting is also combined with "Shou Sugi Ban", which is a traditional Japanese-style wood preservation method by burning. This pyrographic painting is without any additional color other than just the original color of wood that is burning (monochrome sephia). Pyrographic painting titled "Papuan Artists at Sentani Lake" was appointed as an appreciation of the traditional sculptors carried out by the Asmat tribe in Papua, Indonesia. Pyrographic works will seem more classical to raise the natural, ethnic and cultural aspects of the local community who highly value wood as art material. The background to the painting is Lake Sentani, the largest lake located in Jayapura, Papuan, Indonesia. Pyrographer took up the theme of this painting because he had lived and interacted with indigenous people in Papua for more than 3 years. The work of sculptors from indigenous Papuan tribes in the last decade is diminishing due to the influx of the influence of modernization and there is no regeneration of the ability of art to young people.
