About the Artist

Marc Mortier

Belgium

Born in Roeselare Belgium in 1948. Employed as a chemical engineer in a pigment company.
First in production, then in research. Phtalo blue and Prussian blue, yellow and red pigments
all colors! In research, the assignment was to make an opaque form of the
transparent pigments in an environmentally friendly way (high pressure cooking). Colors were
therefore always 'familiar'. Fascinated by drawing from an early age. It was therefore obvious
that once retired, a course was followed at the local academy (Kortrijk). Seven-year study
drawing and painting. Hereby a special interest in pastel (pure pigment!). But also chalk,
acrylic and oil paint. The style is that of the 19th century realists: Courbet, Millet, Meunier.
Topics: A critical look at society: The 1940s, 50s, 60s. A panhumanistic vision whereby Western culture is only one among others.A culture who applies other standards to others than to itself....
