Pedestal I Painting

My career as a designer has naturally formed my approach to my artistic work. It’s taught me how to find balance, and imbue meaning through different shapes, styles, and techniques. From these controlled forms, I become free to play with ideas, colours and moods without losing control of my intention or purpose. I’ve always been drawn to anything vintage that tells its own story through the marks left by human hands and time. It’s why I’m drawn to frayed edges and raw strokes. We all have them, and they are beautiful. When I paint, I seek to create pieces that invite a moment of reflection; that are in their own way raw and revealing. They are designed tell a simple story of complex lives. My work is confined within very structured and geometric shapes, that are given layers through colour and texture. This tension between the restrained and the free—the discipline of design and the liberty of expression—is where my work comes into its own. To my mind, this is Design Art.
