Award-winning artist, Geoffrey C. Smith used strong, broad strokes from his palette knife to sculpt with paint and wax, creating a regal fauve-style, impressionistic pelican. He depicts the pelican floating along the intracoastal waterway in South Florida. Smith's painting suggests that the subject occasionally glances down at its own reflection in the waves, perceiving itself and the world through the mirrored water. Geoffrey, who is often compared to John James Audubon, portrays the pelican in a relaxed nature, almost as if in a state of meditation. He uses bold, purple hues in the background to enhance the depth of water and its tranquility. This enhancement offsets the richness of the golden pelican sitting on the water. The pastel flecks of color in the foreground illuminate the sunlight's reflection on the water's surface, simulating daylight. This painting reminds us all to take a deep breath and reflect, even if just for a moment, when life gets chaotic. This is an original oil and wax on a sustainably sourced wood panel. The World-Famous Artist, who is most recently known for his "Rise Above Lotus" work going into the Vatican, Geoffrey C. Smith is an American wildlife sculptor, painter, and photographer born in Northern California. Smith was taught wood carving as a young child from his Grandfather "Snook". As a young man, he moved to Montana. After a successful career as a decoy carver, Smith began casting wildlife bronzes from clay in 1984. His time spent in the Pacific Coast wilds and the mountains of Montana instilled a love of the natural world and a talent for patient observation of wildlife in its habitat. Smith moved to Florida in 1996 and continues to spend most of his time amongst the abundant wildlife along the Treasure Coast. Smith's work can be found in museums, as public monuments and in private art collections across the world. He has created commission works for several states, counties, and cities across the USA. Most notable of these, the 19’ Stuart Sailfish, has become the iconic symbol of the City of Stuart in Florida. Smith’s experience working on both private and publicly commissioned art projects has given him a unique understanding of both the artistic sensibilities and the practical applications of monumental sculptures in public places. Smith’s sculptures can be found at select fine art galleries throughout the United States. His work has been presented to presidents, state officials and foreign dignitaries as well as acquired by public and private collectors. His work has received multiple awards, including the 2015 Merit Award from the prestigious Society of Animal Artists. Today, Geoffrey Smith continues his work at his studio located in Port Salerno, Florida. He is a prominent figure in the community through his charitable giving, participation for environmental preservation and advocacy for the arts.
