Showed at the The Other Art Fair
Artist featured in a collection
This work will be on show at The Other Art Fair in London (Stand 62) from 30 June to 3 July. Like the others from my Penelope series, it was initially inspired by the indigenous peoples with whom I came into contact during the years I lived in Central America, such as the Guna Yala and the Emberá-Wounaan of Panama and Colombia, as well as by ethnic groups of Mexico and of South America, and expanding further to the populations of every place and time in the world. I had portrayed these women in my sketches, and now I've taken those drawings up as a starting point for this new body of work. They are mixed media paintings with the use of collage made with pieces of my previous works on paper, torn and reassembled, to ideally recall the mixing of the past with the present moment: figures of women dressed in their memories, which I represent to the point of abstraction, highlighting fabrics and decorations. Sometimes I portray them while they work at their fabrics or baskets, patiently carrying on a tradition of craft that becomes life, especially if managed consciously: it is a source of livelihood, but also of self-awareness and freedom. There is a second vision that I try to bring to light while working on these layers: the pieces of collage (the past) that make up these bodies, the chair on which they rest and which supports them, the fabric they create, are memories, knowledge, and possibilities that shape the future, and this is the same thing that happens in the artistic creative process. The artwork is signed on the front and on the back, and comes with a certificate of Authenticity. Framing is not necessary because the painting continues also on the sides. Delivered stretched and ready to hang.

Federica Aiello Pini is an Italian artist. Through overlays and transparencies of paint and papers, she creates a space of possibilities. Nature and human connections are for her not only an infinite source of inspiration, but also a stimulus to investigate reality and the hidden links behind appearance: she tries to imagine the way in which we could perceive reality if we went beyond our daily hyper-correct and organized way of seeing. Different perceptions, emotions, and feelings around us, more complex, intense. Through the use of collage and layers of colors, textures, marks, she translates them on the surface of the painting, so that we can have a tangible experience of them. Among the layers, she often inserts pieces pulled from her previous works, ideally repeating the overlapping of dimensions, universes, thoughts and emotions within us. This in turn creates an overlapping of times, which is what happens materially while she works, and what we do every day with our life, with our memories and experiences: we take them back in our hands, we observe them, manipulate them, mix them with what our life is in the present. Collage in her research acts as a catalyst for the fusion of different times, places, and feelings. A new world then emerges for us, a new reality, which we couldn't even imagine before. Federica moved to foreign countries several times: she loves to explore human connections and feelings, that’s why the human figure is often transformed into abstraction during her creative process, just as abstract and universal are the experiences that she expresses through the theme of the kiss, recurring in her production. Nature has been an enormous inspiration as well, particularly during and after the years she's been living in Panama, where it was so beautifully pervasive, and in Portugal, where she could deeply feel the strong and wild energy of the Atlantic ocean. Also, her passion for the mysteries of the Universe and quantum physics is constantly influencing the way she dreams, thinks, and works. In her artworks, she keeps moving across these themes with her style, as a reminder of the fact that everything is connected, and everything is made of the same matter. Her artworks are held in private collections in Italy, France, Germany, The Netherland, Spain, Portugal, the USA, Panama, and Colombia.
