About The Artwork

I was always fascinated by Pompeian frescoes. Especially by this image before knowing she was Persephone for some, Cloris, the Roman Flora, for others. I was captivated by her grace and lightheartedness. She picks a tiny flower for her basket as she walks in Nature. Among birds, stars and the moon. She does not know she will be abducted by Hades and taken through a hole in the ground to the Underworld. I started this painting and then the Pandemic came. I could not avoid feeling that we all entered the Underworld too. But a dark place can also be warm and nourishing for seeds, ideas. And Persephone returns as does Spring every year so the cycle of life can continue. I put together this "still life" to express this voyage. I used stars made by myself and from the sea, ceramic birds (that are wind and water instruments) made by my friend Olga Gómez, and other objects from my history that I treasure and suggest this trip.

I was born in September of 1963 in Buenos Aires under the sign of Libra. Since I was little I revered nature: the garden, Patagonia and the sea every year, where I stayed at family houses and explored forests and the dunes. Although my parents were agnostic I grew up in a Catholic atmosphere. During my adolescence I started reading spiritual literature: Buddhist, Sufi, Native American, Hindu, Taoist and Early Christianism. These texts and my love of nature, somehow announced and defined my travels in South and North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. They also shaped, along with geometry, my approach to image. I lived for some years in Patagonia, where my son was born. Now I live with my family in Victoria, Buenos Aires, where I paint and teach art classes. I also practise tai chi. I turned a hundred years old house in my home-studio that is a "U" with a garden in the middle, it reminds me of a cloister.
