ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting was completed on the first day of 2014. It was a painted on a hilltop near the port in Porto Heli. In the winter where most places have been overcast and uninviting orer the cold months, Greece is permeated with sunny days. It is in this painting that I was able to explore how a week of rainy gray skies could transform the green hilly landscape at the top of a hill over the main harbor in Porto Heli. There I found a dark green row of pines growing from out of the grassy point. They seemed to be running fast towards the sky, and with the rain to greet them on these days it made their thirst even more evident. It is that energy that inspired me to paint this composition.

My main aspirations are creating illustrations, designing and painting for a purpose. I am continually recording my impressions of nature, people and their cultures in my work. My paintings will be on exhibit in Abu Dhabi from February, 2014. I graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York in 2008 with a degree in design for communication, and in the same year opened an art space in Southern Greece. Several exhibitions I have participated in include an environmental-awareness exhibit sponsored by the Evgenidou Foundation ("˜09), an exhibit with artists from the Middle East at the UN in Geneva ('10) and "Dreams & Think Positive" at SG Gallery in St. George Lycubittus (Nov. and Dec. "˜11). Having grown up in Saudi Arabia, I feel strongly connected with the Arab culture and use my upbringing as a reference in my work; and a Greek-American both countries' heritage provide a unlimited source of inspiration. I also work to touch peoples lives through art and culture by curating exhibitions and promoting other artists. Please contact curator@saatchiart.com for more details.
