A little introduction to those gracing my platform here in our shared appreciation for the creative and divinely expressive arts... Hi I am Sophie Sun! I am the stretcher, the primer and the one who lets her hands move to impulse, holding only to the brush in a practise of letting go so as truth may have it’s way. I am a self taught painter who lives between Wurundjeri Country (Melbourne) and The Peramangk (Adelaide) Hills. Landscape and it’s horizon lines have always danced their way into the abstraction of the work I am honoured to create. Our natural world and this incredible land I walk with is an ever growing inspiration for creative expression but as well and ever more importantly, as inspiration for the way to live. Our symbiotic relations with country, our cyclical knowing and true centring states of being teach of care and of embodied custodianship. I have settlers lineage and so unlearning is part of my journey too. I began my artistic journey with watercolour and will always return to those pigments raw and real. I also love to work large scale with polymer paints, actually any kind of paint and am always relating with the work to listen to what it needs. I follow the principle of making a mess on the canvas and spend the rest of the journey making sense of it and tidying it up.
