ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This was painted with the help of masking fluid - a rubber latex solution. The stamens on the rose were painted and allowed to dry, then overpainted with masking fluid. This allowed me to paint over that area without glazing over the yellow stamens, so that, when the whole painting was dry, I could rub off the masking fluid and reveal the yellow at the centre of the flower.

Paul Lyons is a New Zealand artist working in watercolour.
