Yury Potapov was born in 1965 in a family of geophysicists. He became the first child born in Nefteyugansk, one of russian northern snowy city.Yuri began to draw from early childhood, the first teacher was Era Khlebnikova from the famous art dynasty of Miturich-Khlebnikov. She was the one who laid the foundation of Yury's aesthetic and creative views. At young age Yuri Potapov enrolled at the Sverdlovsk Architectural Institute, where he continued to study art under the guidance of prof. Mozgalev. In 1986, the artist goes to Leningrad, where he works a lot and continues to develop his skills at the Russian Academy of Arts. In the early 90s, together with Oleg Nikolaenko and Rostislav Kurnosov he founded the art group "SNEG"(Snow), known for its provocative projects. Yury Potapov has participated in numerous exhibitions in Russia and abroad. His works are kept in museums of Yekaterinburg, Omsk, Nefteyugansk, Novosibirsk, as well as in private collections.
