About The Artwork

Lockdown, self-isolation after weeks and weeks and with limited supplies, a few sheets of Japanese paper and a vat of indigo. I fold the paper over and over into a triangle shape which acts as a kind of calming experience then submerge in the indigo and let the fermentation do its magic when I take out watching green turn to blue always amazes me. Time moves slowly. Unfolding I reflect and feel that if you turn yourself into a doorway , a space where anything is possible . I mix up indigo pigment and paint the doorway. Poem-19 was selected by invitation for exhibition in Athens, Greece which was shown in September at The British School. I am including the feed back which was sent to me and might be of interest. "Nothing but wonderful, and kind things, were said about your work. We were thrilled to give people guided tours of the exhibition and explain more about your work with individuals than they may get simply from admiring it. One particular aspect to note was how taken the Director of the British School at Athens was with your work - he commented on how admirable it is that you have made your own indigo pigment, and told us how Greece has a long-standing history of ink making! There seems to have been a few British Colonies who attempted to set-up indigo ink stations on some of the islands, it is worth noting, however, these colonies did fail in this task! People were incredibly drawn in by the colour and enjoyed the gold accent of the piece. There were some different opinions expressed on the piece, with most people expressing that the piece created a feeling of calmness and openness when looking at the work. Some members of the public comment that the folds of the piece drew them into the door, and caused them to question where it would lead. The British Ambassador, in particular, was particularly enthralled with your work, and asked multiple questions about the manufacture of the paper and ink. We feel incredibly lucky and blessed that we were able to display Poem 19, and that it got the attention it thoroughly deserved. Thank you so much for everything. Poem -19 is unframed but can be easily framed, I suggest a floating frame to show edges.

Exhibiting international and national award winning artist who practice also includes commission for commercial as well as private collectors. Creative artist making meaningful inspiriting poetic art to cherish.Indigo because it colours everything, all emotion, our fragile planet, our universe. Madder is the colour of open flesh, wounds and healing, love and heartbreak" Indigo, 6000 years of historical importance that continues to inspires me. I make my own non-toxic fermentation indigo vats using century old recipe, plant dyes and pigments from the Earth on washi, wool, silk, this contrasted with industrial materials- cast iron, steel, concrete, engages me in a dialogue that creates a deeper connectedness to being. The tension of light, ephemeral and heavy dark industry produces a emotional experience. I find the dust and grime ingrained surfaces, when the edges worn with layers of time, muted colours greyed into man made materials. The experience of being in a rivers current and looking up through the heavy deep grey black blue sky to a ray light reflecting back.
