ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Painting: Acrylic and Pewter (unleaded) on Wood. Another artwork in my "Polar Series" with hand embossed pewter. My last one for a while. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to visit Nunavut in the Canadian Arctic and fell in love with Inuit culture and art. I have been developing a series of artwork to celebrate the North using pewter that I emboss free hand and acrylic gels and emulsions to translate the ice and snow. This painting "Polar Sentinel" is of an Inukshuk on a specially prepared cradled panel; the pewter is top quality and contains no lead. The word "Inukshuk" means "in the likeness of a human" in the Inuit language. They are monuments made of unworked stones that are used by the Inuit for communication and survival. A beautiful statement piece! It is wired and ready to hang. The edges are painted white to continue the idea of ice and snow landscape on the sides of the painting. The artwork has been varnished to protect the pewter and the acrylic for years and years. Please note the flash reflection on the main photo...the pewter is hard to photograph. I can produce similar pieces with kayaks, inukshuks, polar bears etc...in much larger sizes such as 24" x 24". Please contact me if interested. Keywords: inukshuk, pewter, polar, snow, north, arctic, stone, arctic, monument, metal, north

When I paint, I am happy and feel whole. I paint the beauty of light and the joy I find in life! My work wants to be a sharing of a moment of serenity and balance. It is an expression and reconciliation of my inner dichotomy: I love creativity while needing structure; I love fluidity and softness of colors while craving realist details and lines. Consequently, for example, my watercolour demonstrate realism with colors much enhanced by my imagination. My paintings of sculptures and carvings depict the dancing light on crumbling brickwork, or pastel colors on the stone carvings. In my acrylic or watercolour “Leaves Series”, mysterious but serene light filters through the stems and leaves, water shimmers here and there as the leaves float on the pond. My oil paintings dance with vibrant colors on top of well-structured florals. My first art love was watercolour and my watercolour paintings have won many awards and I have completed major corporate commissions in watercolour. However, I am an explorer at heart and love to try new surfaces, new styles and techniques. I go from watercolour to acrylic paints to mixed media to realistic oils. In the last few years I have become obsessed with detailed oil florals especially of peonies and sunflowers.
