Art Description

Painting: Oil, Spray Paint on Canvas.

'Facing' series

When looking in the mirror, steadily for a long time, comes to a point that it all feels unfamiliar. I come across thinking, ’Is this who I am? Why is this who I am?’
This is the experience of subject of oneself separating from the object of oneself.
Anatomical chart being a physical piece of information and the individuals gazing the subject, shares the similar experience as above. The viewers are looking at the anatomical chart , yet, simultaneously, they are looking into the objects itself, looking into death, and furthermore, looking into themselves. The relationships within the scene collides with the audiences of the painting and my gaze towards art.

The initial meaning of the gazing has been completely destroyed and shadowed, the only clear thing is the act of gazing itself. This is an allegorical scene of the crash between the gaze of a viewer and the gaze from myself towards the painting. Like in anatomy, viewing human just for its physicality to study and to investigate, series is a search for modern reinterpretation of Memento Mori from medieval art and motifs of 17th century Vanitas by interpreting the method used in art history.
