Nancy Sewell grew up in Los Angeles with a love of all types of art, flowers and gardens. Painting from life is an expression of love and happiness. Most of my paintings evoke an emotion, hopefully one of joy. Nancy’s artistic talent was encouraged at a young age with art classes in sculpture, painting, wood turning and ceramics. The journey continued into her college education in fine art, and her career as a global interior architect. Professionally, she designed commercial offices for global corporations such as Microsoft, Toyota Motor Sales, and Warner Bros. and public organizations such as NASA, US Air Force, and the State of California. Nancy served as the Global Director of Interior Design and Workplace Strategies for Hewlett Packard Corporation, designing their offices in over 60 countries around the world. Living now in Palos Verdes Estates with her husband Bill, Nancy is surrounded by the glorious gardens and landscapes of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. “Have you ever seen a flower, a garden, expanse of beach, or the sky at sunset that was so beautiful it took your breath away? I take my inspiration for my paintings from the vibrant colors and forms I see in nature.” I use the transparency of watercolor to layer colors, one over the other, allowing light and dark to contrast with each other. Every painting has a unique palette that is part of the joy of painting that artwork. Nancy Sewell's watercolor paintings are modern portraits of flowers in her garden, children playing, and people enjoying life. Many of the compositions originate from her travels around the world. Some of Nancy's original paintings are displayed at The Artists Studio Gallery in Rolling Hills, CA. The Gallery is associated with the Palos Verdes Art Center; an 80 year old non-profit community art gallery and school.
