About The Artwork

This is an original painting of the poppy field in the Georgian countryside. In June of 2016 our friends, my wife and I went for a hike and a picnic in the mountains. After a couple hours of hiking, we found that beautiful poppy field in the foot of the mountain range, and were about to proceed with the lunch. All of a sudden, the sky became very tense and full of heavy clouds, the sun disappeared. It was obvious that the thunderstorm would commence very soon. Our friends packed and left, but we stayed since I couldn't miss the triple beauty of the poppy field, pearlescent pre-storm sky and blue mountains. The storm was procrastinating to start as if was waiting for me to capture the splendor of the field before its poppies are ruined by the storm. I was finishing when the first drops hit the poppies. I hope that the viewer can feel my awe of the greatness of nature. Painted on a gallery wrapped canvas with the edges painted white, it will be rolled in a tube. Alternatively I can send it stretched, but due to the size, it might be more secure to send in a sturdy tube. The painting is signed in front with my initials in Georgian "Z" "Sh" (ზ.შ.). Thank you for your interest in my work.

Hello! Thank you for looking at my art and reading about me! My name is Zurab Sharvadze. I was born (in 1959) and raised in Tbilisi, Georgia and since my early childhood, I have always had a passion for art. My stepmother was the first one to notice it and gave me an easel and a set of oil paints when I was 14. Since then, my easel and I became inseparable. Following my father’s steps, I got my BS, MS and PhD in Nuclear Physics and worked at the Physics Research Institute until the collapse of the Soviet Union. Since the beginning of the 90s, I became the full-time artist. It was also the time of apprenticeship with some famous Georgian Artists like Temo Machavariani. The beautiful landscapes of my country Georgia are the constant source of my inspiration: Caucasus mountains, valleys with vineyards, meadows full of alpine flowers, pine forests, clear lakes and springs, the Black Sea. I also always take my portable easel and set of oil paints, when I travel abroad. From early spring through late autumn, you can often find me painting outside in the plein air in the mountains or the windy narrow streets of old Tbilisi. During the winter months is mostly studio work of still lives and portraits. The great artists that inspire me the most are Van Gogh, Cezanne, Gauguin, Degas, Mondrian. I participated in numerous Georgian and International Exhibitions. My works have been purchased by art collectors worldwide and can be found in the private collections in Great Britain, USA, Israel, Germany, France, Spain, and elsewhere. My paintings are all original and one-of-a-kind. All my canvases are built up with many layers of oil paints infused with flicks, drips and brushstrokes of paint resulting in a three-dimensional surface.
