Sophia Siersted's artistic practice investigates the impact of our built environment. The relationship between humans and our buildings has fascinated her throughout her life. An architectural style that she has long observed is Brutalism. Her paintings aim to capture its boldness and grandeur through an abstract format. Not only is she interested in the magnitude of such buildings, but also the material elements they hold. She creates textured, sculptural-like artworks inspired by brutalism using diverse materials like paint, cement, and flour. Her research integrates Brutalism into contemporary culture, encompassing film, music, and literature and involves continuous layering and experimentation.
