Portage creek project, late Summer, facing South Painting

This painting is also part of the Portage creek project. The painting was created at Alcott street while facing in the other direction as the other painting. I painted this outdoors on location in late summer, hence all the green foliage. Southwest Michigan tends to be very lush with greenery during the summer. This is also an attempt to document the creek as it flows through Portage and Kalamazoo. As with many of my paintings I build my own stretchers and while using 12 ounce canvas, I stretch and prime the canvas myself. and generally use at least three coats of high quality professional grade gesso. I hope the viewer will get a sense of beauty and peace while looking at this painting. Since the summer is generally and easy time for living, the viewer gets a sense of the ease of being outdoors.
