Portrait of Francis Bacon Painting

"A Portrait of Francis Bacon" I painted Bacon's face in a strikingly morose manner. Not in such a way as to convey Bacon's cantankerous style, but to encapsulate the brooding master. However, I wanted the viewer to see enough traces of Bacon's features to make him recognizable. I worked on bringing the portrait to life by the use of thin transparent layers of paint, rather than the thick layers used to create the background. And so as to compel one to focus on the sitter, I eliminated any depth in the portrait by creating a flattened backdrop filled with a deep blue. In this way, turning Francis Bacon into a symbol of power and authority.
