About The Artwork

Since I was able to finish another painting in less than two weeks, I will tell you about being in the Bahamas and seeing one of those tourist artists who was selling his paintings which he did on cardboard for $10. I know that he was probably poor but whenever I see someone like that, I always think how wonderful to know what to paint and to do it and then to also sit outside and sell your work and even support yourself by doing it. I have decided to become one of those artists; I have become a tourist artist for reality. I sometimes describe what I was thinking as I was painting but maybe describe it as if all those thoughts are now somehow embedded in the work. This cannot be the case. But with this work I was thinking about the idea of purification, of the body, and what that means, and of the mind. Not that one shouldn't take a shower and stuff like that, but in the end, purification of the body doesn't really work. Here is a quote from my story "Wigs" that I am working on: [Jonas is the main character] Jonas’ teacher, an old Tibetan monk at the monastery, sometimes explained that the real and important part of our mind was pure original awareness, which was indestructible, immovable and filled with bliss and compassion. We possessed this at all times, but we didn’t operate from this part of our mind, but from an unstable confused part, which, the teacher pointed out, was not going to survive. So purification of the mind would involve moving from operating from the part of the mind that does not survive to the part that does. In the painting I tried to show a mere soap dispenser but I also tried to make it look like a jewel as well.
