Oil on canvas. I'm very invested in learning about botany. I've found the more I know, the more "purist" I've become about nature - wanting to see it in it's pristine state, before hybrids or the sterilized landscapes we see around us. I've tried and tried to save what's left, educate, cultivate appreciation for native species. It naturally came out in my paintings. I don't like for my flowers to be groomed, arranged or put in order, I just want them to be - a little bit wild, full of beauty in all stages of bloom and decay. With this series of paintings and drawings, I realized I was cultivating mini, focused landscapes and that this was my effort to appreciate without lecture or education. My paintings give us back what was lost or perhaps show us what we have missed.
