ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Framed by Artist: Primary Peelings #1 is part of the 'Primary Peelings' series that continues my obsession with capturing the beauty I find in the forms and shapes of the urban environment. For this series I focused on the roads and footpaths we travel on, creating compositions from these surfaces. Eliciting beauty from the banal, I created large-scale urban artifacts. The work of Piet Mondrian was a source of inspiration for this series of peelings. With 'Primary Peelings' I moved away from excavating sites of personal memories to exposing what we tend not to direct our gaze upon: the surfaces we tread on daily, whether by foot, bike or motorised transportation. The primary colours I used accentuate the lines, forms and shapes present in these surfaces heightening their uniqueness. These surfaces are transformed into abstract streetscape compositions.

I was born and currently live and work in Sydney on unceded Gadigal Land. In December 2017 I completed my Master of Art by coursework at UNSW Art & Design. It was during this time that I invented my unique painting process. To date I have had 9 solo shows and been a part of 14 group shows. Renowned for "Peeling," my unique process employs resin and pigments as both painting medium and adhesives, unveiling urban layers. Collaboration with cities and serendipity infuse my art. Inspired by industrial sites and 90s rave culture, I connect with forsaken spaces, revealing their narratives. I celebrate beauty in imperfections, akin to Kintsugi. Beyond aesthetics, viewer interpretations fuel my creativity, aligning with my life's purpose to ignite creativity in others.
