ABOUT THE ARTWORK
My mom would tell me about these small moments she remembers about me when I was a kid as early as kindergarten. She recalls hundreds of times, whether at the doctor's office, or at a friend's home, how often I used to get up close to these paintings and spend time looking at them. And still this day, I look at works of art as often as I can and as closely as I can. This has naturally influenced the way I make my own art. I think, at the end of the day, my way of making art has picked up from looking at other people's work. I look at these works and I pick up on its patterns, texture, structure, color, etc., and I imagine the artist at work and this causes a sense of magic, mystery and storytelling for me. I try to capture these qualities in my own work.

I am a Cambodian–American artist born in 1980 on a refugee camp in Thailand. My family and I fled the Khmer Rouge and arrived to America in 1982, settling in a small Cambodian community in Santa Ana, California. I currently reside in Anaheim, California with my wife and three daughters ages eight, six, and three. I am a Graphic Designer who has worked for a fine art studio in Venice, California for close to five years, making abstract art in both traditional and in digital formats that would later be installed in corporate offices and hotel lobbies. My experience in Venice has helped enhance my understanding of the way I approach making art. I enjoy using my computer design skills as part of my painting process. And since then, I spend a good amount of time transferring hand painted works and sketches into the computer and this is how I come up with most of my compositions, simply based on this process.
