About The Artwork

I painted this piece for my mother. She's been gone 7 years now and the pain doesn't get any easier. I was thinking of her all morning and decided I would paint her favorite flowers: purple bearded irises. Though this piece is part of my daily "Paint and Drop" practice I started 2 Dec 2020, I'm a bit attached to this one. The point of my "Paint and Drop" series is to push myself to practice painting daily and to disconnect from my pieces by selling them as quickly as possible. I ruminated for a bit before deciding if I would offer "Purple Irises" for sale. Would I be rushing to rid myself of my Mother's memory? I also feel this is the strongest piece in the series so far. I eventually came to the realization that this piece represents the exact reason I started my "Paint and Drop" series: I have literally hundreds of pieces of work in my studio that I feel a similar connection with and they haven't seen much light in the last few years. The work is better served in an environment where someone and others will see it, enjoy it, and find the same beauty in it that my mother did in her flowers. My mother's memory will always be with me, the best I can do is share with the world the things she loved.

email is sdtompkins at live.com IG is stacytompkinsart I have work available in every price point Two-dimensional work: Inspired by microscopy images, themes of spiritual energy and hidden knowledge, my work explores the invisible realms in which we are enveloped, but rarely acknowledge. Sculpture: My mixed media sculptures focus on the psyche, ritual and meaning-making. The works deconstruct the transcultural aspects of ritual, sacred tool/ ritual object evolution, and the role biology plays in the archetypal development of deities. The pieces raise questions surrounding the origins of belief and spiritual identity.
