ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I was experimenting with cardboard models of chairs arranging them until the surface was completely filled. The result was a kind of stand so I decided to place the 'actors' opposite of this pattern. I choose four because I have two brothers and one sister making a quartet. I hope people will feel a little overwhelmed opposing this amount of 'spectators'. That's similar to what I felt when my father dead some eight months ago leaving me as an orphan since my mother passed away five years before him. Now I have to face the world alone, no generation above me anymore. The work is delivered ready tot hang.

Ever since I can remember I'm drawing although I had no examples whatsoever in my childhood. I grew up on a small farm near Venlo in the the south of the Netherlands. The urge to draw finally lead to the Academie voor Beeldende Vorming Tilburg where I graduated in 1990 in drawing and painting.From that time on I am working on a collection mostly dominated by chairs depicted in very different ways. Perspective and perception are crucial elements in this never ending quest. These works are drawn with pencil or painted with watercolor. Still driven by my urge to draw.
