Quite a Pair Painting

When I was painting this pair of pears, they reminded me of a couple on the beach. I apparently personified these pears. They could easily be the figures in a Corona beer advertisement. I hope viewers will identify with the pears, and escape into a warm, sunny place where life is simple and good. I chose to mix the two genres of still life and landscape to make the work more surreal. I am primarily an oil painter, and the jewel-like colors in the painting were made by a glazing technique. I slowly build up transparent veils of color to bring depth to the painting. The multidimensional layers create a lush surface. The painting is on linen canvas that is mounted on wood. It's frame is wooden and it's painted a matte black. The painting is also varnished to protect it from dust and damage.
