About The Artwork
Introducing my new "Roma Primavera" series developed from a recent Spring trip to Rome. The ancient Roman world is prominent throughout the modern city- Sculpture, architecture and painting exemplify a remarkable balance of ingenuity and creativity. Current Rome has carried this beauty forward as it intertwines within the artistic energy of today's city. Serving as the perfect backdrop for Roman antiquity are the abundant trees and ancient gardens that cover much of today's Rome. Majestic umbrella pines are a symbol of the city's history and natural beauty, a revered symbol of spring and immortality. Lush parks and villa gardens like Villa Borghese and Doria Pamphili are filled with calming hues, organic shapes and layouts while the triumphant Aurelian Walls highlight the abundant terrestrial features. All this has come together to provide the energy and inspiration needed to develop a new art series. These abstract paintings are about finding the balance and beauty that exists between the formal structural elements of ancient Rome and the natural, organic imperfections that surround you within the spring terrain. Absorbing the form and flow found in architecture, mosaic, pattern, design and embracing the warm light, rich earth tone and texture revealed within sun dried brick, granite, travertine and simple neutral hues, I seek to distill this into a captured moment. As with all my art, I tap into a sense of discovery to find the enigmatic beauty that quietly exists within the seasons, coastlines, landscapes and places. Travel is something I've used to introduce change to my work through new color combinations and form, channeling thought, feeling and emotion from head to canvas to compose something tangible. The Springtime in Rome (Roma Primavera) series is another creative expression seeking to awaken the imagination and evoking a sense of pleasure found within.
