RUNNING ON EMPTY Painting

This work by Aplin has many layers of oils in various forms. Because of this it has wonderful texture which is a real focal point of the work. The artwork itself is exciting - it illuminates a room with its extraordinary energy. There is movement, rich colouring and an intensity to the work. Patterning has also been used, which does tone the intensity down a little. As a whole, the work imbibes a real sense of joie de vivre to the viewer. Aplin has no person as an inspiration. Her work is of herself which varies considerably by the day. Its not related to moods; more the need to keep trying different ideas that are constantly erupting in her head! So the intensity of energy relates to the need to get the work into a relatable form of art. Aplin has a real penchant for oils. Her oil paints are expensive with high pigmentation, thus enabling the richness in her works that she's after. Her works definitely aren't dull. They will always inspire comment because of the quality of the paints used, but also because of the effort that she puts into each work produced. It needs further drying time before listing for sale.
