SEK, was born in Lincoln Heights on February 14, 1989. He began painting and writing graffiti at the age of 16, but after having a few setbacks with LAPD he took a hiatus from art altogether. It wasn't until the age of 19 that he began painting and writing graffiti again under the alias SEK. SEK is an abbreviation for Second chances and seconds in time, but has many other definitions as well. SEK has become known for his lyrical/text heavy, abstract, cubist style, along with his signature way of crossing out, rearranging and manipulating words and phrases. His work is very raw and loose, inspired by philosophy, mathematics, science, poetry, emotions and personal experiences. SEK explains, "I want my art to make people stop and actually stare at it. I want them to take it all in and have them work it out like a puzzle, or a math problem. As long as it makes them feel something, or they can relate to it and can walk away with something from it then I know I have accomplished what I wanted."
