Recollection of Land Painting

Sydney born Artist, Donna Louise Fletcher’s creative passion ignited in early childhood. Although her path did deviate from her artistic endeavours for many years her passion never waned and she has spent the past seventeen years carving out her visual arts practice. Donna is drawn to the spontaneity of abstract expressionism. In particular the non literal way in which this genre can tell a story and make an emotional connection with the viewer. Donna completed a Bachelor of Fine Art, at the University of Newcastle in 2008. She has had several solo exhibitions and has been involved in numerous group exhibitions both, nationally and internationally. Highlights include; exhibiting in London for the first time in 2018, exhibiting at the City Recital Hall, Sydney in 2020 and her inclusion in a beautiful coffee table book featuring artists from her region in 2022. A two- time finalist in the Gosford Art Prize with her work shortlisted by judge, Brian Stratton in 2019, she won first prize for the Non – Indigenous category in the Reconciliation Art Awards in 2010, held at the Gosford Regional Gallery and has been a two-time finalist in the Lethbridge Art Prize online in Queensland, as well as gaining numerous accolades and recognition for her work over the years. Community projects include, Incognito Sydney, Art for Epilepsy, Art Out of the Box - Take 3, and fundraising at her very first solo exhibition in 2009 for Coast Shelter, Central Coast. She was also a community representative of the Gosford Regional Gallery, 2013-2016 and has had artist profile features in several issues of Art/Edit Magazine, been featured in the Central Coast Express Advocate and is featured in, Artists of the Central Coast - In Their Own Words. Donna’s work is hanging in private collections within Australia, and the United Kingdom. ———————————————————- Artist Statement Each new collection evolves from a spark of inspiration, I am lead by intuition and I am totally immersed in the process. It is only when I allow myself to trust in the marks that the work moves forward and some of my best pieces emerge. I seek the solitude of my home studio to dive deep into a zone where the story can unfold and provide a place for the viewer to be transported, challenged or comforted through the visual language.
