Rectangles No.1 Painting

Working in the geometric-abstract style allows me to narrow my focus by selecting essential artistic elements to work with such as design, shape and spatial relationship. I work within that limitation the same way an artist would choose a limited colour palette. I create simple designs made up of basic shapes and experiment with proportions, repetition, colour and balance. I also like to contrast seemingly symmetrical designs with unexpected asymmetry to add more personality and interest to the overall composition. Once the basic design and colour is established I tend to work instinctively adding and changing as I see fit. My ultimate goal when working in this style is to create imagery that is striking and pleasing to the eye at first glance while revealing its true complexity upon further inspection. Although I have given these works names that are derived from what I see in the image, I leave the interpretation of these pieces in the hands of the individual viewer who hopefully creates an emotional connection with the work based on their own life experiences and personal taste. -This work is ready to hang
