Born and raised in suburban Wisconsin, I moved to Brooklyn at age 24 to teach in the public school system, where I just completed my 16th year teaching, primarily kindergarteners and first graders with special needs. Over the last 10 years, painting has resurfaced as a major creative interest of mine, inspired in large part by my students’ free-spirited art-making. Painting from collages of original and collected images, I use bold color and ambiguous shapes to disorient and disfigure familiar sources of pleasure and comfort - food, bodies, nature, and home - to reveal beguiling pictures that contend with the disorder, desire, and surprise of everyday existence.
