Title: Red Squirrel Medium: Acrylic on Wood Panel Size: 30 x 30 cm A firm favourite of British wildlife for me is the red squirrel. This little guy is native to the UK, but due to the introduction of the North American grey squirrel its numbers have fallen so much it is only really seen mostly in Scotland and in a few remote habitats in Ireland, England and Wales such as the Isle of Wight and Brownsea Island. As well as competing for food and nesting sites, the grey squirrel population carries the virus parapox, which is deadly to our native red squirrels. This endangered species deserves our love and conservation support to remain in its native home! This original painting has been produced using high quality archival materials. Whilst acrylic paintings have naturally high archival qualities and a high resistance to UV rays, this artwork has also been finished with a high quality varnish with UV light stabilizers to further protect it. It is therefore not essential to frame it behind glass, however it is not recommended to leave artwork in direct sunlight. Hand signed by the Artist. Certificate of Authenticity included. Painting is unframed. ©2021 Lucy Blackstone

Hi! I’m Lucy. I’m a self-taught wildlife artist currently based in the UK. Having been fortunate enough to grow up in the countryside, I spent much of my childhood experiencing British wildlife in harmony with my every day life. I continue to take inspiration from this today, driving my desire to use my skills as an artist to share my experiences and passion for wildlife, and raise awareness for the conservation of all species, both at home in the UK, and further afield. My work focuses on the expression and personality of each animal. Combining bold colours, simplified forms and fine detail work, each piece centres on the eye of the animal to bring the piece to life. By removing the subject from its context, the viewer observes the animal itself, undistracted by the environment around it to emphasise and evoke their true character. For me the joy of being an Artist is the journey. I am always looking for ways to challenge and develop my skills, allowing ideas to flow as the painting develops to create something unexpected and beautiful.
