The Rexburg L.D.S. Temple had a glow when traveling past it at night, I was inspired to compose it. It was a cold and snowy day when I went up and set up to Plein Air paint. I came back into my studio and composed this painting. Enjoy!

Nancy Vinzant Lamay

About the Artist

Nancy Vinzant Lamay

United States

Nancy Vinzant LaMay currently lives in Idaho. The name Vinzant is her maiden name and the artists which have inspired her during her journey with painting have been Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh. Her family thought it sounded like her style “Vinzant LaMay”, and so her dream began.

When I have an opportunity to visit family and friends in Long Beach, Huntington Beach, or Newport Beach, I seize the moment. Besides loving the Snake River Plain, I love my hometown, Newport Beach;since I am a native from California.
I love to create artwork with thick impasto paint, it is like sculpturing, moving the paint around on the surface to form the composition I desire. Studio painting is great when the weather elements are cold and windy; however, when the weather warms up, Plein Air is where I receive my inspiration, from Nature. We are shape finders, I love to paint in my head, those memories evoke the desire to paint.
My favorite motto is "Carpe Diem' Seize the moment!
I can trace the artistic incentive in my early childhood, when my grandma would get her oils out and mix them on ceramic tiles with tubes of dry pigments. After my grandma died, I decided to follow my dream…. Picking up paint with a brush or palette knife and creating artwork I can share with others, that is the true honor when others enjoy your paintings.
