Art Description

Painting: cardboard, Acrylic, Wax on Cardboard, Other.

The inspiration for my work stems from the early Renaissence master Piero della Francesca Roman frescoes and the Russian avant-garde from approx 1890 to 1920. I search for qualities that I have experienced when confronted by these creations. Qualities such as balance, harmony, simplicity, rhythm, vibrant stillness and pregnant silence plus a certain purity. These aspects lead to a feeling I can only describe as having a meditative tone. It is such qualities that I hope the spectator will recognize and thus be drawn into the work so to say. I have created the whole in semi-relief raised somewhat from the backcloth of cotton material as for me they then have their own vibration. I also use metals, mounting card, cardboard, glass fibre, carbon fibre, coloured glass, wood and of course colour.itself.
I have chosen this medium as it gives me the freedom to create in a manner that expresses my present artistic concerns.
