ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Richmond Invierno II People crowd into Richmond Park to get away from it all. This work is about the feeling of distraction from our own experience and the yearning for space. The deer seem oblivious to our dilemma as we try to connect with them. All the art works are 50 % recycled, i collect them in charity shops, providing me texture, diversity on styles, ideas, history of the canvas itself, giving back some money for a good course and the joy of recycled.

La Rosa is an artist affected by themes relating to childhood and the experience of growing up in community with a strong connection with the environment. Originally from Narino, Colombia after graduate leave to study English and start working in New Zealand after seven years leave to Namibia for one year and from there to the UK. currently based in Brighton. La Rosa’s work seeks to explore the connection amongst ourselves and with our relationship with the environment. This interest has been expressed through the investigation of the fragmentation of relationships at a societal and wider ambiental level. Projects have included ‘Product of Colombia’ solo exhibition which portrayed the disconnect between westerner consumers and coffee producers in Colombia through reused coffee sacks, and "Las Negritas" which critiqued the continued subservient portrayal of black women in Colombian popular culture. Racial segmentation has been later explored in an African context through the 2014 series called Submarine desert which represents desertscape post-apartheid social structures in Namibia. Natural themes predominate and are often explored through childish associations. Our urge to connect with the essential and authentic resonant throughout the work and naive representation used to point to continuous rebirth from our surroundings. This is expressed through images of animals and landscapes and has included series ranging from the experience of Namibian animals participating in environmental decay, the disconnected of deer in a London park, and the interstellar promotion of second-class animals, where those are not privileged from humans and so many times forcing to domesticated and or have mistreated, as in the series "Pigeon Spikes" Using spontaneous recycled materials so giving a reason to create La Rosa is currently working on a series called "Barb Wire" Rosa Baquero earned her MFA from the institute departamental of Fine Arts, Cali-Colombia.
