This painting was inspired by street parades and neighbourhood street parties. Where roads are blocked off to allow the events to take place. The deep purple background is my favourite colour and will lift any mood or room. Acrylic, Ink, Oil Pastel and Collage on Arches Paper 400gsm

Remy Roberts is a London based Australian Artist whose practice encompasses drawing, painting, collage, ceramics and installation. He is the co-founder of Tekminimal Gallery in Sydney, where he has exhibited his work and curated the majority of the exhibitions. His Work has also been exhibited in several other Sydney galleries. Most recently his solo exhibition at Join The Dots and group show at China Heights Gallery in Sydney 2023. Roberts also works freelance as a Graphic Designer, Illustrator and Muralist. His work is held in private collections in Australia, United Kingdom, Denmark and Japan. My work is best described as abstract and naive landscapes using mixed media. Subject matter comes from a fascination with cartoons, graffiti, photography and streetscapes. Concepts derive from personal memories as well as my own photographs, which I like to dissect and often use as black and white collage pieces. Paintings are mostly driven by the exploration of naive abstractions with a strong focus on materials and process. Understanding how to use different mediums together in a simplified approach and finding the balance between the materials in a minimal way. Not over working things and limiting my colour palettes. Aligned with negative spacing to control compositions. I like to explore what works well as I go, by recognising any imperfections along the way and turning them into new directions. Overall I think maintaining a playful process throughout is the key purpose of their creation.
