ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona was established by Davis Lisboa as a response to the narrative surrounding the artists who established their own museums, including Marcel Duchamp, Robert Filliou, and Marcel Broodthaers. The museum is a ready-made sculpture, a non-profit collaborative art project, and a recognized cultural institution in Spain. "The Paintings Section" is divided into two sections: still lifes, which depict the Boîte-en-valise, La galerie légitime, and the Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles; and portraits of Marcel Duchamp, Robert Filliou, and Marcel Broodthaers. The museum's paintings can be found in several private and public collections around the world, including in Spain, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Belgium, the UK, Cyprus, and USA.For this artwork Lisboa was inspired by Robert Filliou's video "Teaching and Learning as Performing Arts, Part 2" and the paintings of Henri Matisse and Edward Hopper. Davis Lisboa (São Paulo, Brazil, 1965) is a visual artist based in Barcelona since 1986. Throughout his career, he has worked across diverse media, including drawing, painting, digital art, and video, exploring the boundaries between applied and fine arts, high and low culture, art and the marketplace, as well as craftsmanship and technology. In addition to his work as an illustrator and painter, Lisboa is the creator of the Davis Museum | The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, an innovative online project that functions both as a work of art in its own right and as a platform for the promotion of international contemporary artists. This mini-museum, conceived as a conceptual artwork, challenges traditional exhibition conventions by presenting pieces that blur the lines between viewer and artwork, encouraging critical reflection on art accessibility and the democratization of culture. Lisboa has participated in numerous exhibitions and art events of international significance, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the global contemporary art scene.
