About The Artwork

The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona was created by Davis Lisboa as a continuation of the narrative surrounding artists who created their own museums, such as Marcel Duchamp, Robert Filliou, and Marcel Broodthaers. "The Paintings Section of the Davis Museum" is divided into portraits of Marcel Duchamp, Robert Filliou, and Marcel Broodthaers, and still lifes of the Boîte-en-valise, La galerie légitime, and Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles. For this painting, Lisboa drew conceptual inspiration from a frame of Robert Filliou's video titled "Teaching and Learning as Performing Arts, Part 2," and formal inspiration from the paintings of Brazilian artist Candido Portinari.
