About The Artwork

What/who inspired the work? Formally, I was inspired by the Gerhard Richter's paintings and conceptually, by the Robert Filliou's assemblage titled "Autoportrait bien fait, mal fait, pas fait" (Self-Portrait Well Made, Badly Made, Not Made). What do you hope its viewers will feel/think? Since 2011, I am creating a collection of oil paintings for my museum, The Davis Museum in Barcelona (www.davismuseum.com). This group of artworks are divided in three genres: portraits, still lifes and historical paintings. I started to paint Filliou in 2011 and this artwork is his nineth portrait. Why did you choose the medium, subject matter? Oil painting is glossy, flexible and durable. I use the best material for my paintings: linen fabrics, Blockx and Old Holland oil paintings. The main subject matter of all paintings is the "artists who created their own museums". For this reason, I usually make portraits of the artists (Duchamp, Filliou and Broodathers), also make still lifes of their "museums": "Boîte-en-valise", "La galerie légitime" and "Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles". This is the only section of the museums in which the works are for sale. Support The Davis Museum art project by buying now this painting on Saatchi Art. How will your artwork be packed for a movement? Artwork will be guaranteed to be shipped in accordance with high security standards, so that your shipment is as safe as possible while traveling from the artist's studio to your museum, gallery, hotel, business or home. For this, your oil paintings on canvas will be sent unrolled, stretched out on a wooden frame, flat, without frames and any special assembly. The packaging of wrapped canvases consists of: · An acid-free archival quality glassine paper cover · Two sheets of Foam boards · A sealed heavy plastic bag (to protect against moisture) · Two layers of bubble wrap and secure with tape · Cardboard protectors to each corner of the oil painting · Two other larger sheets of Foam boards · A sturdy cardboard box marked as "Fragile" Davis Museum Paintings Section in Private Collections Alejandro Vásquez Herrero Collection, Viladecans, Spain.
