About The Artwork

There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One is roots, the other, wings. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe We need both: We need roots to be able to fly. I frequently write Thankfulness Lists as thankfulness is one of the strongest, most positive feelings. And when I last made one I wrote „roots“ and „wings“ on it as two of the things I am grateful for. I have strong roots. I come from a loving and caring family. A network that will always be powerful. My parents gave me roots when I was little and they gave me wings and let me fly as I grew up. In my case I am sure that my wings got stronger and their span broader over the years because of the balance between this earthly connection and the freedom to explore. My artwork „Roots and Wings“, with its strong base and complimenting light elements, shapes and lines, was inspired by the strong feeling of thankfulness for my roots as well as my wings. Like my other paintings it is a square format and consists of various colorful, contrasting layers of acrylic paint, ink and charcoal. On your wall, it reminds you that you can spread your wings and fly, as your roots will support you.

Diana Linsse is a German painter who has always been fascinated by images. Linsse is primarily an abstract painter, though like Picasso she believes that “everything you can imagine is real.” She paints by layering modeling paste, acrylic paint, ink, pastels, and charcoal on the canvas. She extracts objects and forms from their usual context and rearranges them in new settings. By doing this, Linsse hopes to achieve unexpected new harmonies and relationships of form and color. The products of this method are beautiful improvised landscapes like “Flow” and her „Morocco New York“ Series, among others. Linsse has always been naturally drawn to painting. She began to pursue it as a teenager, but experienced great disappointment when she won fourth place in an important art competition. While the three winners went on to prestigious art universities, she decided to focus on another field of study. But although she wished to move on from painting, painting did not wish to move on from her. Linsse did not feel content until she returned to painting full time as an adult.
